What Drives the Cost

Service size. The largest cost variable is whether you are upgrading from 100 amps to 200 amps, replacing a like-for-like 200-amp panel, or going to 400-amp service for a larger home. Bigger service requires larger conductors from the utility connection to the panel, which adds both material and labor cost.

Panel brand being replaced. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels are the most common replacements we do. The work scope is the same as a standard replacement, but these jobs often come with a deadline from the homeowner's insurer, which affects scheduling.

FPL or Duke Energy coordination. Every panel replacement in Florida requires the utility to pull the meter before work begins and reconnect after the inspection closes. This coordination is included in our jobs but adds time to the project.

Permit and inspection. In Florida, a panel replacement requires a permit and a final inspection by the county or municipality. Permit fees in Palm Beach County and Brevard County typically run $150 to $400 depending on jurisdiction.

Cost Ranges by Scope

100-amp to 200-amp upgrade: $2,000 to $3,800. This is the most common upgrade. It includes a new 200-amp panel, new service entrance conductors sized for 200 amps, the meter base if needed, permit, and inspection.

200-amp panel replacement (same size, different brand): $1,800 to $3,200. Replacing a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel with a new 200-amp panel from Square D, Eaton, or Siemens. The conductor sizing stays the same; the work is panel removal, new panel installation, circuit transfer, and permit.

200-amp to 400-amp upgrade: $4,000 to $7,000+. Larger homes, homes with electric vehicle chargers and pool equipment, or homes adding a standby generator sometimes need 400-amp service. This requires a meter base upgrade and utility coordination for increased service capacity.

Sub-panel addition: $800 to $1,500. If the main panel is full but in good condition, adding a sub-panel is often the right answer rather than a full replacement. Common in garages, workshops, and additions.
